Jennifer Messina



A highly skilled therapist with almost 20 years of clinical and consulting experience, Dr. Jennifer Messina helps clients not just cope with challenges but to thrive in the face of pivotal life transitions (developmental, medical, professional, emotional, and interpersonal).  Common presenting problems include: anxiety, blended family, divorce, depression, effective communication in relationships, grief, infertility, new cancer & other medical diagnoses, romantic break-up, self-actualization, social and school difficulties, stress management, & work/life balance. Taking a competence-based approach and founded on a rigorous scientific background, Dr. Messina is particularly effective at providing psychotherapy to teens, women, couples, and families. 

A graduate of Dartmouth College (’93), Dr. Messina obtained her masters (’94) and doctorate (’99) degrees in Clinical Psychology from the University of Virginia. Dr. Messina completed an internship at Duke University Medical Center and a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Virginia. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Messina is the author of and provides consultation and trainings on a range of mental health topics and interpersonal violence.  Dr. Messina joined Family Health Associates in 2016 and is located in the Manhattan office.
